Mist Fairies

Long ago, humans entered the Great Forest seeking land, wealth, and power. They cut ancient trees, hunted without restraint, and brought their wars into a place that had known harmony for thousands of years. The Mist Fairies pleaded with them to stop. They healed the wounded, regrew the forests, and extinguished the fires, but each act of mercy was answered with more bloodshed.

To end the wars without wiping humanity from the earth, the fairies cast the Veil of Balance. Humans became animal hybrids, their bodies forever tied to the instincts of the creatures that best reflected their spirits. Wolves, bears, ravens hybrids were born. The fairies hoped that by reconnecting humanity to nature, they would learn to live as part of it instead of above it.

For generations, peace returned. But eventually the clans began fighting once more. Their leaders became consumed by pride, vengeance, and the desire to rule.

The Mist Fairies passed a final judgment. The chiefs, kings, and queens who refused every chance for peace were transformed completely into beasts. They lost the ability to return to human form. Became consumed by their animal instincts.

It was both a punishment and a warning: those who surrendered completely to their instincts would remain bound to them.

Ballerina

She lacked a sewing kit
To piece herself back together
The threads ran free
She looked for a lost tether
As she unraveled
She knew She might get lost
And what another move could cost
She spun
Until she vanished in thin air
The ballerina could no longer care
About what tied her to this realm
And she set herself free
From all of them
Of threads too thin and shoes too tight

The ballerina still dances through the night

On a stage of her own making
